Translated from the Greek (in 2019) to be shot in silence (on Tinos Island, Greece in 2021).

Bleat was shot on Super 16mm black-and-white film (1.66:1 aspect ratio).

In addition to the poster, Vasilis Marmatakis also created a printed programme for the première run of nine performances given at the GNO in Athens (6–8 May 2022).

Bleat will only ever be presented as a 35mm projection accompanied by a live music ensemble and choir.

Edited and researched a printed programme for the six-hour stage installation Inside by Dimitris Papaioannou, to accompany twenty performances at the Pallas Theatre in Athens (13 April – 15 May 2011).

With graphic design by Antidot (Christopher Brellis, Eleni Mitrou), the publication opens with a graphic documentation of the full Inside choreography laid out across twenty-eight pages (or else fourteen folded spreads).

Printed on one side only, these newsprint pages can be unstapled and laid end-to-end to form a single choreographic scroll. A scatter of word clouds.

This textual trace of bodies moving through space was built out of a short poetic description written by Simon Tsakiris (spliced and multiplied and layered), and produced (initially by hand with paper and scissors and paste) in partnership with the performers.

There were ice-sharp documentary photos too by Marilena Stafylidou, capturing twenty-four Inside instants (and their solitary observers sat bottom right beside a growing glade of glasses, tokens of each individual journey). Stacked four high, like apartment blocks.

And an anthology of short reference texts lacing a bare body (Ilias Rafailidis).

Plus: a textual panorama of everyone (and everything) involved set alongside a photograph (that I snapped) of a faintly Hellenistic boy (Panos Athanasopoulos) gazing out at (a projection of) Athens' urban fabric cleaved through by a main street.

The programme book also came with a compact disc featuring the music written for the work by K.BHTA (and for those twenty-two audience members who entered Inside, a special digital versatile disc burned with an edit of their performance).

A theatre / archaeology performance created by Efthimis Theou for the National Theatre of Greece in 2025, as part of its "Introducing Greece’s Ancient Hidden-Gem Theatres" initiative organised in partnership with the Diazoma Association.

Translated (into Modern Greek) and reworked fragments taken from five lost plays by Euripides – Andromeda, The Cretans, Phaethon, Polyidus, and Theseus – to be woven into the work's text, in partnership with Efthimis.

Also assisted Efthimis with the dramaturgy of the piece. (Our background in archaeology – and shared field survey experience on the Kythera Island Project back in 2001 – helped here.)

The fragments from the play Polyidus are (very old yet) new, unearthed in Egypt from the grave of a mother and child in 2022, on a crumpled piece of papyrus that was then carefully studied by specialists. Words once lost, now placed once more in the mouths of actors.

First rehearsed with and performed by the actors Efthimis Theou, Electra Nikolouzou, Katerina Papandreou, Yorgos Kritharas, and Yorgos Syrmas in 2025. Eleni Vergeti joined the performance-excavation team in 2026.

These promotional pictures were shot at the National Theatre of Greece (Ziller Building) by Karol Jarek in 2025.

Karol shot these additional pictures inside the Tower at the School of Athens – Irene Papas (the NTG Drama School), where revival rehearsals were held in June 2026, to include Eleni.

the School of Athens – Irene Papas Open-Air Theatre in Piraeus.

One announced tour stop – at the Ancient Theatre of Thorikos (in Lavrion) – did not go ahead (but can be imagined).

This is a model of the set, designed by Loukas Bakas to be placed lightly at each ancient theatre or site (or in whatever other setting).

Here are the musical scores for two choral fragments composed specially for the performance by Kornilios Selamsis: a dawn chorus from Phaethon and an ode to Eros from Andromeda.

These are the costumes designed by Pavlos Thanopoulos for the five archaeologist-performers.

Performance text also translated from the Greek for the love of it, and for use as surtitles in 2026 at the inaugural edition of systέma, a showcase for the Greek Performing Arts jointly organised by the Athens Epidaurus Festival, the Kalamata International Dance Festival, and the National Theatre of Greece.

Elenit by Euripides Laskaridis premièred at Onassis Stegi in November 2019.

Rehearsed on the same stage in Athens one year later, the work was ready to tour once more: programmed by Théâtre de la Ville to appear at Théâtre de la Cité internationale.

With days to go, a second Covid-19 lockdown saw these Paris performances postponed.

This was the problem. Filming and sharing the documentary short Here Not Here was a solution.

The title – conceived while writing texts for the film – was plucked from the mouth of the director Euripides as he spoke on connecting with audiences (hearts not heads). It also played on where we could and could not be physically at that time (backstage not onstage, home not away) but also mentally (absent not present).

ΕΔΩ ΠΑΡΑ ΕΔΩ. HERE NOT HERE. LÀ PAS LÀ.

The Kythera Island Project (KIP) was "an inter-disciplinary research programme investigating the long-term cultural and natural dynamics of insularity on the Aegean island of Kythera, Greece."

Co-directed by Cyprian Broodbank and Evangelia Kiriatzi.

The project ran for six seasons (1998–2003), including four seasons of intensive field survey (1998–2001) covering one hundred square kilometres of the island (circa thirty-six percent of its total area).

While still in development, The Lobster was awarded the ARTE International Prize for Best CineMart 2013 Project at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.

This feature was Efthimis and Yorgos' English-language debut, for which they were nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the 89th Academy Awards.

The film also won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival (where it premièred), and saw the pair named Best Screenwriter(s) at the European Film Awards in 2015.

The translated screenplay was published as The Lobster Screenplay Book by A24 Films in 2022.

Certain scenes first translated from the Greek in 2012 to be included in an English-language screenplay for a short film written by Efthimis with Yorgos Lanthimos. This film was never made.

First staged as a reading by Manos Lambrakis – in partnership with Zoi Hatziantoniou – at the Karolos Koun Art Theatre (Athens) in 2014.

Adapted by Eirini Vianelli into the animated short Icebergs in 2017. Here are some stills.

Text translated in full for the love of it in 2018. Later appeared in print as part of the NOON collection in 2022.

Published in Spanish translation (Evripidis Sabatis) as part of Veinte corazones, ganadores in 2019.
